RELAXATION, RELIEF, REHABILITATION - Massage therapy has a therapeutic effect on the body and improves health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. The goal of massage is to maintain, rehabilitate or improve how the body moves and functions, as well as to relieve pain and reduce stress.

To accomplish this multi-faceted goal, a number of different techniques are used. Jo-Anne’s treatments combine Swedish (classic) massage with trigger point therapy, deep tissue work, joint mobilizations, sports therapy, light lymphatic drainage as well as stretching & strengthening, as needed.

Swedish Massage Therapy techniques are classic massage techniques used to work muscles, ligaments and connective tissue. These techniques can be deep or light & relaxing. Very useful for treating a variety of conditions ranging from stress to tendonitis to sports injuries. Swedish Massage may also be referred to as "deep tissue" or "relaxation" as the strokes can be manipulated in a number of ways to achieve a therapeutic effect.

Lymph Drainage – light manual techniques used to reduce swelling and/or congestion. Often used as a boost to the immune system or to reduce swelling from acute injuries or post-surgery.

Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT) – combines lymph drainage with compression therapy, education, exercise and skin care. It is the most effective form of treatment for Lymphedema in North America and Europe.

It is used to treat lymphedema – a condition often seen as an abnormal swelling of a body part – that may be present from birth or acquired later in life. It can be secondary to cancer treatment.

Jo-Anne is one of the limited number of CDT therapists in Ontario. For more information please contact Jo-Anne at (416) 465-8179.
